Graduated, saw Death Cab For Cutie with Kristen, was lazy, visited Dad & found out I am gluten and soy allergic, saw Relient K & others at Busch Gardens, was lazy, went to the beach, almost got duped by a "Tech Sergeant" stationed in Guam who would "mail his car to me via eBay Protection Program," went to the beach, updated my iPod, went for a walk, filled two Operation Christmas Child boxes, had a playdate with Lilly, ate brisket & mashed potatoes, discovered that gluten-free beer exists.
After my birthday summer will be over & I will get a job. Magazines aren't hiring, so I'm figuring I'll have to work a lot of hours at a part-time place, & do free-lance writing somewhere on the side. Looking forward to saving up a few thousand and moving into a small place of my own. Ready to start a life.

PS - I love "Dollhouse." Kinda pisses me off that it's just beginning, so I can't watch the whole series in one sitting. I can't stand the suspense. Yesterday's episode was the BEST.

Charlotte came into town for the day yesterday, and, as usual, we spent our three hour visit talking mostly about her. I probably won't see her again, ever, which is kind of weird but doesn't bother me. We're too fundamentally different, she swears waaay too much, and she's too self-involved to be a real friend. Ah well, I have my whole life.
Went to Schmagels this morning and for the first time ever, the cute girl who works the register COMPED MY BILL!!!! Amazing! I love free stuff and I love Schmagels even more, so in appreciation I'll probably go there tomorrow. Woop! It seems to be the only place I can work. It helps to not have cell phone reception there. Plus the register girl plays her iPod and she has good taste in music.
Raining tonight. Grass needed it, my hair didn't.
Gargoyled all day today while it was sunny. Of course.

I've been hanging out more with Haley (the Gargoyle editor) lately and I have to admit, I have a huge girl crush on her. She's terrific and cute and we have a ton in common. I don't know why we haven't started really doing things together until now, the last two months of college. Shits.

"Seems to me if you can trust, you can't be trusted."
That sums up life. There are a few people I can think of who need to hear that.

And I need a car. I paid $16 in cab fare yesterday just to go get a hair cut.

FRUSTRATION RAMPANT. Trying not to freak out. I actually think I'm doing pretty well at resisting taking a dining hall fork and jabbing it into my throat. But the days whiz by and suddenly it's tomorrow and things don't get done and I don't know how to do things and neither does anyone else. Pause - "Postcards from Far Away" is on.
Sorry, had to close my eyes and chill out to that. It's a ridiculously short 48 seconds. Why? WHY?? It's too beautiful to be over so quickly.
Back to the original thing: I have a video camera signed out this week, although all the HDs are signed out so I had to take the only PD 150 available. IE - half of my video will be in HD and half of it will be in SD-not-as-goodedness. Not quite sure how I'm going to manage to blend it and make it look decent-ish.
Portfolios are due at noon on Monday (the day after Spring Blink, of course) and the edit lab is, of course, closed during the weekend, so I HAVE to finish shooting my video today (PLEASE, Dylan, be on time!) and edit it, compress my reel, and upload everything to Foliotopia (basically it's a wannabe Monster resume site that only has Flagler as a network - IE - no employer will ever see this crap because no employer will want to create a Foliotopida account just to look at a potential employee's site - IE - the point is?)
Holy crap. I have index cards full of Lists of Things all around my room. Some overlap but most are full of new things I remember to do. Not to mention my other classes. WORLD.
It'll be over soon.
Then comes the Real World.
ACK.
Coldplay makes it all better.

My head is still spinning. That was so amazing. Of all the people, of all the towns, of all the times, it was Mason Jennings at Cafe 11 today. I'm speechless, as usual.
He opened with a quiet new song I've never heard, and I could barely see him because the tall people always stand in the front (????), but I just stood there and listened and now I'm in love with him all over again. I love seeing artists in person. They're there, right in front of me (more or less), breathing my same air, singing right to me. I pay more attention to the lyrics, and Mason's words are perfect. He says exactly what needs to be said in that moment. There is nothing like his music. Every time I hear it I feel complete.

Ok. "The L Word" is an amazing show. And it hurts me that they ended it like that. I mean, what, it's suddenly a crime-whodunnit show for the last episode? No. You don't change genres in the last episode of a series. It's not done. It's stupid, and it makes fans mad. I am one such fan. Here are some questions that I was expecting answers to, and some that this episode raised but never answered:
1. First off, WHO KILLED JENNY. 2. How did she die. 3. Why were Bette and Shane wet (I assume they got Jenny out of the pool?). 4. Will Tina see the footage of Bette and Kelly. 5. Why did Helena say they're all special, "especially Kit," like that. 6. Why confuse me even more by having Nicky appear from the bushes. 7. WHAT is going on with Max's mustache. I figured when he was shaving, he was doing it to look more like a woman, not a disco porn star. 8. Are Helena and Dylan really over. Probably yes. 9. Why would Dylan and Jenny be talking about the test? Why would Dylan feel the need to tell Jenny she knew all along. Obviously Jenny didn't know Dylan knew, and she can't be trusted. Dylan's an idiot. 9. Why did they have Alice say "who killed Jenny" then Lucy Lawless say "oh so you think she was murdered" and then not freaking answer my question. 10. Biggest Question: What is with the closing sequence. They're all walking (wind blowing in their hair? seriously?) towards the sheriff station. They keep looking around at each other for like, a whole minute as they walk. I keep thinking they're at the door by now. Nope, more catwalking, plus weird smiling now. More walking, holding hands. WHAT? JENNY? Wait, still more holding hands, wind, walking, and really big smiling. Bette smiles connivingly into the camera as Jenny looks up at her admirably. The End. WHAAAAT?
There are so many more questions. I'd have to watch it again to rethink of them. Terrible episode. And terrible way to end the series. They killed it when they killed Dana. That's all there is to it.

I have crap to do (ie- find an actor!!!! and locations!!!! and coordinate schedules!!!!), but I am so not doing it. I shot part of my reel menu - the quick part, of course - and I have the equipment taking up space in my room while I wake up at noon and putz around the internet doing nothing. Although I did do a little research on apartments, and I can get a studio at Countrywood for $500 a month. I don't know if that's a remotely good deal or not. I'm guessing yes, because those aren't the nicest apartments in town. Being "grown up" is a big step, man. I need to figure out how I'm going to make money while I wait for magazines to start hiring me....
On that note, off to make myself happy with some Goldfish for breakfast and Limewiring at Casa Monica. It is such a productive life I lead.

And I haven't left the room or my pajamas since Friday. Laaaaame. I've watched about a bazillion movies and have done about zero homework. As usual.
The Kristen/Edwin visit was really good. We didn't do, like, anything....but it was still good. We ate brunch at Schmagels, then walked and sat on the beach for a while. Then we sat outside at the Casa Monica cafe, then went to Flavors for dinner. Then they left. Short, and seemingly uneventful, but it was nice to have them here.
I just found out that the cast for my video project is kaput. Which is crappy, because I don't have any friends here that can step in. Sam got Bell's Palsy (which is what my mom had, so I know how much it suuucks), and I still haven't heard back from Liz. So I'm guessing I should count her out. And who knows about Kaity. I'm pretty sure she'll do it, but she hasn't emailed me her schedule yet, so I'm feeling a little buggered. I have three weeks, but in that three weeks, I have to shoot this video (after I find locations, and now a cast...), edit this video, and shoot/edit three other small things for my Senior Portfolio. I know it'll all come together, but it's mildly freaking me out. I'm nowhere near hyperventilating but the awareness of what's ahead is daunting.
And on top of it all, I can't even go get my hair cut today like I wanted to because I have nothing else to do. Since I'm obviously not doing my homework. The wind is way to strong for me to risk my safety. US1 is a ridiculous road to bike along, and the added risk of getting blown over (or just really tired from biking against the wind for 3 miles) makes it not worh it. Although I reeeally need a hair cut! Why can't snooty local salons be cheaper? Why should I have to pay $45 for the same simple cut I could get at Great Clips for $13?

Alright Self, get a grasp on your, because you only have a month to finish compiling everything that will make your college career mean something. Senior Portfolio is quickly approaching, and you need to 1) find the time to shoot and edit videos, 2) find the motivation to find the time, and not dwindle all your effort away because you won't get a writing job after you graduate anyway, and 3) stop getting freaking Rice Krispie treats to munch on after dinner, because you know they're bad for you. Sugar is a non-food. Rinse and repeat.
The List of Things:
-breakfast bagels at The Bunnery with David at 9 a.m. -edit (please Jesus let the footage work) at 12 p.m. -buy Mason Jennings concert ticket -confirm Kristen's interest and availability for Death Cab for Cutie concert -then buy Death Cab for Cutie concert ticket -email Steve to ask him to put his Project #2 footage onto my external or a Mac in the edit lab -read "Mama Lola" for eventual presentation -write Magic chapter summaries for the rest of the book (9, 10, 11) -write article summary for Native Americans Kolomoki site book, Chapter 7 -finish pre-production packet for 417 Project #3 (shooting script, crew/equipment needs, budget, locations, day-to-day shooting schedule, shot list, overhead diagrams, storyboard) -find locations for Project #3 shoot -pin down and gut-sock the two actors who are evading me and not returning emails -make sure senior portfolio menu is transferrable to the Macs in the edit lab (please Jesus) -if not, check out a camera and buy M&Ms to shoot a retake (or shoot the computer screen of the original playing? will that look hideous? probably?) -mail Alison a check (do I have my checkbook here?) for the other half of the bridesmaid dress -mail Alison her external once I can guarantee her footage will work on the Mac in the edit lab -some other stuff?

My life is ridiculous. I'm ridiculous. I have two days off a week, plus weekend, and still I manage to not get things done. I'm not behind, actually I've been ahead, but I'm not motivating myself to read that Vodou book, and I still haven't gone in to edit what footage I can. I made myself sign up for edit time tomorrow even though it's a day off. Cross fingers I wake up in time.
This made my night, so I'll share it. I heard her song, posted above, on the L Word so I looked her up. And this is brilliant.

Yes I looked up what the Czech word for music is. And it sounds like a Jewish celebration. Hudba? Come on. "Let's break out the matzo and recite kiddush for the hudba."
In 29 minutes I'm going across the street to the Flagler Auditorium to see the Czech Symphony! Really pumped. Oh, and I apparently got a jury summons at home, which my mom is trying to get postponed until I graduate. Fun! Democracy at work! Making citizens participate even if they don't want to! I'll bet I will be the only thoroughly interested person there. But if I get lost looking for a parking spot downtown, there will be f-ing murders (I love that I can quote "Snatch").
